60 years of passion for African Violets
The African Violet Society of Queensland was founded on February 28, 1966, when thirteen people met at the Canberra Hotel in Brisbane to talk about their plants. What started as a friendly meeting of enthusiasts quickly grew into an official society dedicated to the cultivation and appreciation of African Violets.
From these humble beginnings, the society has grown to become one of the leading African Violet organisations in Australia, with members from all walks of life united by their love of these beautiful plants.
Thirteen enthusiasts met at the Canberra Hotel in Brisbane to establish the African Violet Society of Queensland.
The society's first Constitution was drawn up, establishing the framework for how the society would operate.
The first Newsletter was produced, keeping members informed about society activities and providing growing tips.
The society held its first Annual Show, which has since become our flagship event, attracting visitors from across Queensland.
The Society became Incorporated, providing a more formal structure and greater protection for members.
